Art Journal Everyday – Finally Completed One!

I always have delusions of grandeaur!  I mean well…I have good intentions…I want to be disciplined…

Ajc2011.1

So, one of my goals this year was to art journal everyday…every month I sign up for Julie Balzer's Art Journal Everyday…I don't mean to be a slacker…I mean well…so up until this past week I purchased an uber cool journal to use…it is hard-covered and has handmade watercolor papers with awesome deckled-like edges…I have tons of art supplies…and up until this past week all I managed to get done was applying gesso to two pages…and I didn't post that because it wasn't that interesting…BUT this week I managed to complete two pages (okay, they're side by side, but still)…AND I have started another set…

So here they are (or here "it is")…oh…the other delusion of grandeur is participating in Tangie Baxter's Art Journal Caravan at Scrapbook Graphics…I participated last year, completing a total of two digital pages…this year I went hybrid!

I used digital elements from Basic Grey's Perhaps Starter Kit and Tangie's Art Journal Caravan Provisions kit…I had intended on doing this page the first week of 2011, and included my word for the year…begin…and as I've posted before, two big changes (or new stuff) has been to finally begin teaching online workshops and I've also opened up my own Ning group for all women ages 13+ for the purposed of building an online community to share everything it means to be female with a focus on mixed media art.  I have so much more I want to accomplish this year, including wrapping up my first year as a graphic design student (almost there…finish my first year of studies in June…being my second year in July).

I'm also working on three new workshops that I'll be offering (hopefully soon) on my "Just Be Yourself" group.

So…after I applied gesso to prime my pages, I used Talens Opaque and Transparent watercolors, used Liquitex matte medium as my adhesive and sealer, and to add some dimension and shading I used Stabilo chalk-pastel coloring pencils (which worked awesome for this project!)…I used a black gel pen for the lettering and then went over my writing with a Sukura Gelly Roll glaze pen to give it an embossed look.  So…yeah…this was fun…I hope I can get beyond just the gesso layer for this coming week!

Oh…and Happy Mother's Day!  It will be a quiet one for me…none of the kids are coming home, and my dear mother is in the hospital…

Thanks for stopping by!

Hugs and Toodles!

  1. Well I for one love your slacker journal pages! And you have no idea how excited I am for the classes you’ve got up your sleeve for your group. If they are anything like your last two they are going to be WINNERS!
