I'm so excited! One of my favorite art forms is fashion sketching…not that I'm a clothes horse because I'm more at home in a worn pair of blue jeans and a white cotton T-shirt…but I love the art of fashion sketching. I'm not very good at it yet, but I have amassed "several" books on fashion sketching as well as books about designers themselves like George Barbier and Erte, both famous designers during the art deco period at the beginning of the 20th century. I'm also a huge fan of Traci Bautista's…I've taken all her workshops, and she, along with Alisa Burke, have helped me to reach beyond my "usual" form of art which was very primitive, vintage-looking folk art (my chosen form of art 20 years ago) my tastes have expanded to include a more retro, mod form…both artists create grungy, hip, graffiti forms of whimsical art.
As I got to know Traci and her art form more the past couple of years, one of her forms really spoke to me…the doodled pretty faces she creates…she's always called them "fashionistas" because the inspiration for them derives from fashion photography. I as well as many of her other students had requested that maybe someday she would offer a workshop based on just that…drawing fashion-photography inspired art…well…that day is FINALLY here! She hasn't posted the first lesson yet…I'm stalking the classroom like a hungry lion…and yes…I know…I should be working on my school "stuff"…
Here's a video clip she did to promote the class…
And here are a couple of my favorite fashion sketch books…check them out for your own inspiration!
